Jem Scaffolding

Jem Scaffolding is a family-run, independent scaffolding and access hire company based in Plymouth, with over 35 years of experience in the commercial and domestic sectors. The company employs over 50 skilled scaffolders and a dedicated office team of six. Darren Toms is the Managing Director, Martin Daw is the Operations Director, and Dan Paull is the Contracts Manager. Darren Toms took over the company at age 19, and his two sons have since joined, each leading their own team.

The business is named after the original owner's niece, Jemma, who passed away at age 5. Jem Scaffolding provides scaffolding across the South West for commercial, domestic, and industrial sectors, and has worked on projects including Plymouth Guildhall, Mount Wise Towers, and Tungsten Mine. All scaffolders are qualified under the CISRS scheme, and the company complies with TG20:21 and SG4:22 health and safety regulations. Jem Scaffolding is fully insured and offers apprenticeships. It provides a free, no-obligation site survey and quotation.

Emergency call-outs after storm damage and planned work on chimneys and elevations recur in accounts of this Plymouth scaffolding and access hire operation. The installation and delivery process draws repeated comment, with crews arriving when expected and erecting structures without fuss. Friendliness and knowledge among the team come up again and again, staff being described as approachable and willing to explain what is happening on site. Several reviewers praise the standard of the finished scaffolding and the professional manner of those who put it up, while others focus on how swiftly problems were dealt with once the firm was involved.

Tidiness after dismantling is another theme, sites being left clear once the work is complete. Where difficulties have occurred, accounts describe attempts to resolve them rather than leave matters hanging. Chimney stacks and damaged properties appear among the jobs mentioned, indicating a range of access needs from routine contracts to urgent responses. Repeat custom is noted by more than one customer, and the practical handling of access work is what lingers with those who comment, particularly the careful attention given to repairs around existing structures.
