GAP Hire Solutions - Portsmouth

GAP Hire Solutions was established in 1969 by Gordon Anderson and remains a family-owned and run business. It operates ten divisions and has almost 200 locations across the country, with services in Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man. The company won a RoSPA Gold Award for Fleet Safety for the fourth consecutive year and created the 10 Think Safe Golden Rules for workplace safety.

It aims to achieve Net Zero by 2040. GAP Hire Solutions provided a complete Events package for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and supplied Clancy with a battery Kubota U27-4E for onsite evaluation. Its main services are equipment hire across plant, tool, lifting, non-mechanical, trenching and shoring, survey and safety, welfare, tanker, pump, power generation, environmental and event services.

Tool and plant hire in Portsmouth draws a mixed picture from customer accounts, with praise for the range and helpfulness of staff sitting alongside repeated complaints about reliability. More than one customer describes the breadth of equipment available, including tools, lifting gear and plant, and note that the premises are easy to reach with parking, while staff are frequently called helpful, friendly and well trained, with account holders speaking of a good service they return to regularly. Reviewers also mention daily dealings and consistently positive experiences at the counter.

One thing mentioned again and again is dependability: one account describes a booked generator being cancelled shortly before collection with little apparent effort to offer an alternative, and another refers to unreliable plant combined with rude counter service. The range and the attitude of staff emerge as the strongest themes in the feedback, while the reliability of hired equipment is the main concern raised. Customers value being able to source lifting and plant hire alongside smaller tools from one site, and the helpfulness of the team remains the detail that recurs most often across the accounts.
